The etc library has been removed for several reasons.

* The name didn't make sense on MS Windows.
* Almost none of the methods worked on MS Windows.
* The interface mimics the Unix function names too closely.
* It did not use reentrant functions where available.

h2. Replacement

Use the [[sys-admin]] library instead.
